Guide to edible seaweeds

Edible seaweed is a highly nutritious, versatile and delicious plant-based food source that can boost your health and spice up your plate. Often used in vegan cooking to create a ‘fishy’ taste, seaweed also boasts a huge range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre and polysaccharides.

The most notable benefit is the iodine content found in seaweed. Iodine is a critical mineral in the function of thyroid hormone production, the recommended daily amount of iodine is 150mcg for an adult. And our seaweeds can contribute significantly to this, with just one gram of Nori containing 25% of your RDA, Wakame containing 93% of your RDA and Royal Kombu containing a massive 1,693% of your RDA.

Bladderwrack is known to have one of the highest levels of iodine amongst all seaweed varieties, it can provide up to 30 times the standard daily intake of iodine. Bladderwrack is also commonly used in skincare products due to its high levels of vitamin A and E.
