Winter Skin Rescue: Revive Your Complexion With A Clay Mask

detox clay powder - Woman with clay facial mask

The festive season is with us once again, and it’s a time when most of us are juggling a packed schedule and maybe a few late nights, with the temptations of rich food and alcohol.

This can take its toll on the skin, particularly when combined with chilly weather and indoor heating. Here’s a look at how detox clay powder masks can help to keep your complexion looking clear and radiant all the way through to the new year.

The 100 per cent natural skincare solution

Clay, and particularly Montmorillonite Green clay, has an exceptionally porous consistency and is very effective for drawing impurities out from the skin and absorbing excess oil. The clay also has a gentle exfoliation effect, helping to slough away dead skin cells to reveal smoother and brighter looking skin underneath.

Therefore it’s particularly suitable for people who are prone to acne and breakouts, which can be exacerbated at this time of year by stress, changes to usual makeup and cleansing routines, and a more fatty or sugary diet than usual.

It’s also perfect for people with sensitive skin or issues such as eczema, because it contains no harsh chemical additives such as parabens, sulphates, or synthetic fragrances. These substances are almost always present in the skincare products of major brands, and can cause dryness and irritation.

A powerhouse of star ingredients

As well as green clay, our special Rejuvenance face mask contains spirulina, which is rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients. This will deeply hydrate the skin and help to reduce the signs of tiredness that late nights and partying at this time of the year can bring.

The mask also contains activated charcoal powder, which helps to remove toxins from the skin and unclog pores.

Other active ingredients include fenugreek, a natural anti-inflammatory that soothes irritated skin and reduces redness; vitamin C, which boosts collagen production and brightens the skin; and camellia sinensis leaf, which is rich in antioxidants and helps to keep the skin looking smooth and supple.

How to use the clay mask

The mask is very simple to use: all you need to do is combine a heaped teaspoon of the powder with rose water or spring water and mix with a wooden spoon in a bowl (it’s important not to use a metal spoon, as this will neutralise the negative ionic charge of the Montmorillonite Green clay, reducing its effectiveness).

All you need to do is apply the mask generously to your face and neck, and leave it in place for 15 or 20 minutes. When the mask is drying but not fully dried out, rinse with warm water and remove the remaining traces with a soft cotton or muslin cloth. Finish by applying a hydrating serum or oil for a beautiful smooth result.
