Our Altai shilajit pure resin is hand-harvested high in the remote Altai Mountains of Siberia, cleaned with fresh mountain spring water and slowly evaporated at low temperature into a rich, glossy resin. No high-heat boiling, no aluminium pans, no shortcuts: just raw mountain shilajit, kept as close to its natural state as possible. This is a genuinely superior grade of shilajit that costs us around three times as much as our previous supply, yet we have kept our price exactly the same. Simply put, it is the best shilajit we have ever sold.

Why Altai shilajit?
Most shilajit sold in the UK comes from the Himalayas. Ours comes from the Altai Mountains, the vast, wild range where Siberia meets Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China. Shilajit from this region is known across Russia and Central Asia as mumijo and has been prized in Siberian, Mongolian and Russian folk traditions for centuries. Far from industry and pollution, the Altai is one of the most pristine mountain environments on earth, and the resin that forms in its rock crevices reflects the unique sub-alpine plant life of the region. Many shilajit enthusiasts describe Altai shilajit as smoother, milder and earthier in taste than many Himalayan varieties.
What makes this shilajit resin so special?
The difference is all in how it is processed. A great deal of Himalayan shilajit is boiled at high temperatures, often in aluminium pans, high up in the mountains before it is brought down. Heavy boiling is quick, but it is harsh on a delicate natural substance.
Our Altai shilajit is treated with far more care:
- Hand-harvested from the rock faces of the Altai Mountains.
- Cleaned with mountain spring water to gently wash away rock and debris.
- Low-temperature evaporation slowly turns the purified liquid into resin, without boiling.
- Kept alive: this gentle method is designed to preserve the resin’s natural enzymes and delicate compounds that high-heat processing can destroy.
- No aluminium pans at any stage of production.
Our supplier has specialised in wholesaling Altai mountain shilajit for 13 years and, in their own words, has never found a shilajit better than this one. Friends of theirs who travel regularly to the Himalayas have taken it with them to compare, and have never found anything better there either.
Premium shilajit, same price
When we found this shilajit we knew we had to stock it, even though it costs us roughly three times more than our previous resin. Rather than pass that on, we have chosen to keep our price the same. If you have bought shilajit resin from us before, you will notice the difference, and if you are new to shilajit, there is no better place to start.
What is shilajit?
Shilajit is a sticky, tar-like resin that slowly seeps from cracks in high mountain rocks, mostly in the warmth of summer. It forms over centuries from ancient plant matter and humus that has been compressed and broken down within the mountain. The name comes from Sanskrit and is often translated as ‘conqueror of mountains’ or ‘invincible rock’, and it has been treasured in Ayurvedic tradition for thousands of years, as well as in the traditional practices of Russia, Mongolia and Central Asia, where it is known as mumijo.
Analysis of shilajit shows that it naturally contains fulvic acid, humic acids, dibenzo-alpha-pyrones and a wide spectrum of trace minerals, which is why it has become one of the most sought-after natural resins in the world.

How to spot quality shilajit resin
Genuine, high-grade shilajit resin should:
- Be firm and glassy when cool, and turn soft and pliable in the warmth of your hand.
- Dissolve fully in warm water without leaving gritty residue.
- Have a deep, earthy aroma rather than a burnt or smoky smell, a common sign of over-boiling.
Our Altai shilajit resin ticks every box.
Traditional uses of shilajit
For thousands of years shilajit has been used in Ayurveda as a rasayana, a rejuvenating tonic, and in Siberian and Mongolian folk tradition mumijo has long been valued as a restorative taken during times of recovery and physical demand. Today, people around the world take shilajit as part of their daily wellness routine, often first thing in the morning.
Suggested use
Shilajit resin is best taken as a tea (add honey or lemon if you prefer). Dissolve a portion about the size of a grain of rice in warm (not boiling) water or herbal tea and enjoy 1 to 3 times a day. You can also let a small portion dissolve under the tongue. Store in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed. Shilajit resin naturally hardens when cold and softens when warm; this is normal.
Because shilajit is a compound containing many minerals, there is the potential danger of toxic overload on minerals such as iron. Do not exceed the suggested dose and stop taking shilajit if you experience any negative side effects. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are taking medication or have a medical condition, please consult your doctor before use.
