AFA Blue Green Algae Powder – Klamath
Blue-green algae (aphanizomenon flos-aquae) is wild-harvested from upper Klamath Lake, Oregon, USA. Certified organic wild harvested in the USA.
Our blue green algae is certified organic in the USA, but not registered in the UK as such. Although this is not something that is tested for, to our knowledge AFA is an Oxalate-free food.
It is 100% aphanizomenon flos-aquae blue-green algae (AFA for short) and is considered by renowned health authorities to be nature’s most beneficial superfood. Our blue-green algae is a non-GMO and harvested from nature under the highest purity standards.
Ingredients: 100% Blue-green algae
Country of Origin: Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon, USA.
Botanical Name: Cyanobacteria
How is it dried?
Our Blue-Green Algae uses a state-of-the-art certified organic drying method called Hydro-Dri, which preserves the nutrients in AFA. Hydro-Dri (also known as Refractance Window) its a proprietary drying process that uses a gentle heat transfer to remove moisture, while maintaining the maximum integrity of AFA. Hydro-Dri technology retains nutrients, enzymes, colour and tastes far better than other methods, such as freeze drying or BioActive Dehydration methods.
Physiologically, blue-green algae may help support overall body and mind balance in numerous ways. It is said to simultaneously support the immune, endocrine, nervous, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular systems.
Nutritionally it provides over 65 vitamins, minerals, amino acids and essential fatty acids, it contains more protein and chlorophyll than any other food source and is the most nutrient dense food known to man.
DHA and EPA in blue green algae
When it comes to the levels of DHA/EPA in our Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), it is known to contain Omega-3 fatty acids in the form of Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) and Omega-6 fatty acids, in the form of Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), but not DHA or EPA specifically. Research shows that ALA may be converted by body into DHA, and from GLA, the body forms Dihomo-y-linolenic Acid (DGLA), which is one of the body’s three sources of Eicosanoids (along with EPA), but is not exactly the same as EPA.

Chlorophyll content (per 10 grams): Chlorophyll is a very important part of the algae. Its molecular structure is almost the same as that of the haemoglobin, which is responsible for carrying throughout the body. Oxygen is the prime nutrient, and chlorophyll is the central molecule for increasing the oxygen availability to your system. Chlorophyll is vital for the body’s rapid assimilation of amino acids. Algae is the highest known source of chlorophyll.
* As with any wild-harvested food, chlorophyll content may vary depending on the growing season, time of year, and environmental factors.
