Coconut sugar is one of the healthiest natural sweeteners, it’s rich in flavour with a hint of caramel sweetness and resembles brown sugar. Not only that but it has a low glycemic index so is much better for you than conventional refined sugars.

With a 6,000 year history, palm sweeteners have a proven track record of providing nourishing sweetness for the human body. It also boasts a high nutritional content, includes essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids. It offers a rich supply of iron, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and vitamins: B1, B2, B3, and B6.

Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is made from the nectar produced from the coconut tree (coco nucifera – not the same palm tree that produces Palm Oil). Once collected, it is boiled and processed into a granule.

* Please note that some coconut palm sugars on the market are mixed with cane sugar and other malt-based ingredients. Our coconut palm sugar is made from 100% pure coconut palm nectar. No cane sugar added. No maltodextrin added.

UK Maca SuperfoodsHow our coconut palm sugar is processed

In order to catch the sap from the coconut tree, farmers must climb to the top of the palm, using great strength and skill. After an incision is made in the stalk of the coconut flower, the sap begins to run. It is usually collected in the mornings, sometimes in empty coconut shells or a bamboo container.

It is then heated in large open pots until the translucent liquid turns into a thick and concentrated syrup, known as jaggery. During this process, water, lime and organic mangosteen’s peel are added to prevent fast fermentation. The syrup is allowed to cool and set into a solid paste, which, depending on the caramelisation that has occurred, can be a very deep brown colour. Due to the minimal processing and small batch production of this product, the taste, colour and texture may vary from batch to batch and even between packages.

The paste is then transported to a processing centre for granulation. The resulting sugar crystals are dried, sieved and carefully inspected, ensuring that only product of the highest quality goes on to be weighed and, finally, packaged.
