If you wake up with good intentions to be as healthy and active as possible, you want to make sure you get your day off on a good note. This is why making yourself a delicious smoothie full of superfoods is a great idea. Here are some recipes to give a go that will put a spring in your step.
Green superfood smoothie
One of the best things you can add to a smoothie is spinach, which is full of iron, magnesium, as well as vitamin A, C and K. Another great thing about spinach is it instantly turns your beverage a bright shade of green, so you feel like the Hulk when drinking it.
This green superfood smoothie also contains pineapple to boost immunity with its antioxidants; kefir, which is a good source of probiotics; calcium and protein; ginger for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to ease digestion; and turmeric, also for being a good anti-inflammatory.
Vegan beet smoothie
This beet smoothie will, no doubt, be a popular choice, as not only is it vegan, but it contains lots of immune-boosting ingredients, including vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium.
Simply blend beets, coconut milk, frozen banana, seedless grapes, lime juice, spinach or kale, and some ice together for high-fibre, nutritious drink.
Fool Proof Living says: “These smoothies are such a good way of getting raw beets in your diet.”
Healthy chocolate smoothie
Thanks to the addition of hazelnuts and coco powder, this smoothie is like drinking a bowl of creamy Nutella.
“This Nutella Lover’s Healthy Chocolate Smoothie is a creamy and decadent chocolate smoothie that is actually good for,” the website states.
So how do you make it? Simply blend roasted unsalted hazelnuts, ripe pear, dates, unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extra, coconut water and some ice together. The end result is a smoothie that “tastes like a chocolate ice-cream”, which is rich in potassium, fibre, protein, vitamins A and C, calcium and iron.
Lemon turmeric flush drink
For a refreshing drink, try this lemon turmeric flush drink comprising lemon, turmeric, ground ginger, cayenne pepper, cinnamon and maple syrup.
According to Modern Honey, this drink is so powerful “if I am suffering from anything – from allergies to autoimmune issues to overeating the night before, this helps to clean out my liver and belly”.
This is due to turmeric’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which improve liver function and prevent toxin damage. It is also good to aid digestion. Additionally, ginger helps to support the immune system, as well as improve digestion.
Whatever flavour smoothie you opt for, there are some superfoods you can add to any drink for an instant uplift. Chia seeds, hemp seeds, flaxseeds, matcha and even bee pollen are all great ingredients that provide additional nutritional benefits.
Chia seeds, for example, are high in omega-3 fatty acids and fibre, while also being hydrating. Hemp seeds are full of protein, fibre, fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, and essential amino acids. Matcha has lots of antioxidants, amino acids, and is a great detoxifier. Lastly, bee pollen has an abundance of vitamins, proteins, minerals, lipids, fatty acids, enzymes, and antioxidants, so a sprinkling of this on top of your smoothie will certainly boost your health.
