What Are The Best Superfoods For Healthy Eyes?

Our eyes are one of the hardest working parts of the body, from the moment we wake up they are working, whether it’s to stare at a computer and smartphone screen, the TV, or just every day looking around at where you’re going.

Over time, our eyes can get tired and damaged, but there are ways we can help boost the health of our eyes with the right diet. According to a recent study by the University of California, dried goji berries are a superfood that can potentially reduce the degeneration of the eyes of middle-aged people, reports Fresh Plaza.

Growing up in Northern China, the lead author of the study, Li Xiang, a doctoral candidate in the Nutritional Biology program at the university, said she had heard of the qualities of goji berries, and wanted to explore this further with a study.

The researchers analysed the results from having participants eat 28 grams of dried goji berries every day for 90 days, versus a group of subjects who took a synthetic product that aims to replicate the benefits of the superfood.

According to the study, consumption of goji berries made a significant difference in helping to slow age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss, estimated to affect 170 million people globally.

While the study showed it can slow the rate of AMD, and prevent it from occurring, it did not show that it can reverse the condition.
