Traditional Chinese medicine believes the key to good health is maintaining the balance between the two opposing forces in your body: yin and yang. Rehmannia is used by UK Maca Superfoodspractitioners of Chinese herbalism to balance the Yin.

Rehmannia grows in parts of northern and northeastern China and has been used in traditional medicine for over 2,000 years. Its thick brownish-black roots are usually harvested in the autumn and used for a variety of medical purposes. It’s commonly used to treat conditions believed to be caused by yin deficiency. These include a whole host of conditions including allergies, anaemia, constipation, diabetes, fever, eczema, high blood pressure, bacterial and fungal infections, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, insomnia, and pain relief.

The species name “glutinosa” comes from “glutinous”, referring to the sticky nature of the root.

Rehmannia also boasts a variety of vitamins including vitamin A, B’s, C, D and catalpol.
